The QUIC (Quick Urban & Industrial Complex) dispersion modeling system has been developed to quickly compute 3D wind and concentration fields around buildings. The fast response wind model, QUIC-URB, explicitly solves for the flow field around buildings using a suite of empirical parameterizations and mass conservation. The rooftop recirculation region is approximated by implementing algorithms for the dimensions of and the velocities within the recirculation region, which are a function of the aspect ratio of the building (Bagal et al., 2004). The current algorithm in the model has been found to be deficient for some obstacle shapes. In this paper, we describe a new rooftop recirculation parameterization, based on an inverse wedge-shaped profile that appears to work better for a wider variety of building obstacle types. In the presentation, we will show comparisons of the model-produced wind fields to measurements obtained for buildings of different height, width, and length ratios.
