The Doug Lilly Symposium

2.1

Theoretical Aspects of Severe Local Storm Dynamics

Yvette P. Richardson, Penn State Univ., University Park, PA

Douglas Lilly's contributions to the study of severe convective storms are numerous and varied. Current understanding of severe local storm dynamics benefited greatly from his initial numerical simulations of buoyant convection to later explorations of tornado dynamics, squall line dynamics, rotation in convective storms, and the influence of helicity in severe storm dynamics. These contributions will be reviewed along with subsequent work that built on this rich foundation.wrf recording  Recorded presentation
