Synergy use of microwave and hyperspectral IR measurements for hurricane study

The observed radiances from the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU) and the Atmospheric InfraRed Sounder (AIRS) onboard the NASA's Earth Observing System (EOS) Aqua satellite are used to retrieve the atmospheric temperature and water vapor profiles. The Preliminary results of synergy use of microwave and hyperspectral IR measurements in deriving atmospheric and cloud parameters for hurricane study is demonstrated and analyzed. Comparison of these retrievals with measurements obtained from the available in-situ aircraft dropsondes will be provided in this presentation. This method can also be applied to process NPP/NPOESS Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) and Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS) data for hurricane study.
