Modeling the tropical tropopause and stratospheric water vapor
A302 (Georgia World Congress Center)
Byron A. Boville, NCAR, Boulder, CO

One of the major themes of Jim Holton's research was the transport of water vapor into the stratosphere. Considerable progress has been made in understanding the mechanisms determining the concentration of water vapor entering the stratosphere. However, these processes and, indeed, the processes determining the tropopause temperature are still under debate. This talk will discuss the representation of the tropical tropopause and transport of water vaper into the stratosphere in the Whole Atmosphere Community Climate Model (WACCM3).
