Dynamic and thermodynamic structure of an orographic squall line observed by means of Doppler radars during the MAP Experiment

Pierre Tabary, CETP/UVSQ/CNRS, Vélizy, France; and G. Scialom

The high-density radar network set up all along the MAP field phase in the Lago Maggiore Target Area allowed observation on an orographic squall line on 17-18 September 1999. In a first step, multiple-Doppler analyses of the radar measurements were performed in order to describe the structure of the system both at convective scale and mesoscale from a dynamic and thermodynamic point of view. In a second step, we focus on the triggering and maintenance processes of this convective system.
