Spatial variability of eddy covariance measurements: a comparison of two identical eddy correlation systems in adjacent plots

Jon Warland, University of Guelph, Guelph, ON, Canada; and K. Taillon

Two identical eddy covariance systems have been run continuously at the Elora Research Station since July, 2000. These systems have been run side-by-side, vertically aligned, on opposite sides of the tower, and in adjacent plots. Using this data, we are able to make a preliminary assessment of the spatial variability of eddy covariance measurements over a homogenous field. We are particularly interested in the agreement between the sensors when vertically aligned at approximately 0.8 and 1.8 m above a bare surface. An analysis of the data in the context of energy budget closure will be presented.
