A pressure parameterization based on the geometry of the flow
Cara-Lyn Lappen, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO; and D. A. Randall
A new method to parameterize the pressure terms in closure models will be presented. This form that the parameterization takes depends on the geometry of the turbulent flow. Results will be shown for a clear convective boundary layer and one for which rolls are observed. The results of this pressure parameterization will be compared to LES results for the pressure terms in the momentum variance and flux higher-order closure equations. The results using the new parameterization will also be compared with results from commonly used previous parameterizations (e.g., Rotta).
