ATMOSPHERIC BOUNDARY LAYER STRUCTURE USING WAVELETS ANALYSIS

Mariana Adam, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD; and H. M. Calvani and M. B. Parlange

An analysis of the ABL structure is performed using wavelets technique applied to the lidar backscatter signals at 1064 nm wavelength. The lidar data were taken during Baltimore Supersite project in July - August 2002 in an urban area of Baltimore. The atmospheric conditions were various ranging from a clear ABL to very complicated ABL structures due to a variety of pollution events. The simplest analysis concerns the definition of the ABL inversion with a Haar wavelet. The ABL coherence structures are also determined at high resolution using different wavelets. .
