Statistical analysis of oat yields in relation to weather in Saskatchewan, Canada
Jon Warland, University of Guelph, Guelph, ON, Canada
Oat yields across Saskatchewan, Canada, are examined in relation to weather using several statistical techniques. In particular, the iterative chi-square technique provides information about when particular weather events are damaging to crop yield. A new technique using iterative principal components analysis is introduced for multivariate analysis of weather and yield data. Results indicate at what growth stages oats are particularly vulnerable to adverse weather conditions, as well as providing a quantitative estimate of the relationship between certain weather conditions and yield. .
