Turbulent shear stress is an indicator of flow mixing. This research utilized a two-dimensional laser Doppler velocimetry to measure Reynolds shear stress so that the mixing process could be examined. The experiments were designed to investigate the effect of both wind-generated and hydraulic waves on the turbulent mixing of upper water surface. The wind only case, the wave only case, and their coupled cases were tested. Primary results demonstrated the wave or wind itself is weak mixing compared to the coupled cases.
