An updated assessment of stratospheric temperature trends
William J. Randel, NCAR, Boulder, CO
An updated assessment of stratospheric temperature changes and trends is ongoing under the auspices of the SPARC theme Detection, Attribution and Prediction of Stratospheric Change. This involves analysis and intercomparison of updated observational data sets (through 2004) from satellites, radiosondes, rockets, lidars, and meteorological analysis/reanalysis products. We also aim for updated understanding of past temperature changes and trends, based on analysis of a hierarchy of global model results, including coupled chemistry-climate general circulation models. This work is currently ongoing, but we plan to have substantial results available by June. .
