Assessment of trends in surface and upper air temperatures at various locations in Canada
Lucie A. Vincent, MSC, Toronto, ON, Canada; and E. Milewska
Recent studies of the Canadian climate have indicated significant changes in the observed surface temperature during the past five decades. A strong warming is identified in the western part of Canada while cooling occurs in the north-eastern part of the country, particularly during winter and spring. It is pertinent to determine if related trends also occur in upper levels of the atmosphere. This work presents a preliminary analysis of the trends and variability in temperature at the surface and various standard upper air pressure levels at several locations in Canada.
