The statistics of the Madden-Julian Oscillation depend on its interactions with atmospheric and oceanic waves of varying timescales. The nature of its interactions with oceanic Kelvin waves varies about the ENSO cycle. An analysis of data from the Tropical Atmosphere Ocean array of moored buoys, TOPEX/JASON sea level height data, and Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR) is applied to explore the nature of these interactions and how they might affect the dynamics of the MJO itself and the progression of the ENSO cycle.
