A Review of Education Symposia Presentations at the 2006 European Geosciences Union General Assembly

Education is a global commitment. What can American geoscience educators learn from their European counterparts and vice versa? In order to better prepare our students to become stewards of our planet, the American Meteorological Society has committed itself to a long-term investment in educational outreach with an emphahsis on an Earth Systems Science approach. This commitment extends beyond teacher training into the classrooms and communities of our students.
The European Geosciences Union supports collaboration between educators and scientists with efforts such as the GIFT Program (Geophysical Information for Teachers), support of the International Heliophysical Year, the GLOBE Program and DLESE.
Focus will be on collaborative efforts between scientists and geoscience educators in the European community, and those efforts which can serve as models for AMS Education Programs.
