W4.5 A Maury Project Module: Density-Driven Ocean Circulation (Centre Greene Building 1, Room 2126)

Monday, 3 July 2006: 2:30 PM
Craig Croone, AMS/Maury, Northfield, MN

The oceans are a layered system. Even small differences in density drive this layered system. The workshop on is designed to give the educator a hands-on experience with salinity and temperature differences as they relate to the density of a water mass. Water masses are named for both their source region and the depth of the layer that they are found. A simple model will be produced from the temperature/salinity data that will be worked with in the workshop.
