ACCENT is the European Network of Excellence in Atmospheric Composition Change (2004-08). The Task “Training and Education” in ACCENT (www.accentnetwork.org/training-and-education) brings attention to the field of atmospheric composition via education and training aimed at a diversity of target groups, including lower graduates and young scientists from Master level up to 3 years after completion of a Ph.D. The Task also provides individuals and/or teams from institutions of higher education and research, the business world, science teachers and the media with information material and flyers on current issues in atmospheric composition change, skills and competence in interdisciplinary co-operation, new didactical tools and approaches, the application of new information and communication technologies for learning and teaching beyond blended learning, as well as soft and essential skills (e.g., leadership and communication). The Next Generation programme developed by the Task T&E in ACCENT will offer two weekly training workshops in Thessaloniki, Greece (October 2006), and Riga, Latvia (June 2007), and the ACCENT Youth Summit in summer 2008. It is proposed to organise a mini-workshop during EWOC2006 aimed to illustrate the interactive concepts underlying the Next Generation programme in ACCENT, and to demonstrate the application of some of the associated training tools.
