ESIP and CIMSS: Increasing the Use and Usability of Satellite Data in Science Classrooms (Poster)

Satellite Data provides scientists and educators with exciting opportunities for investigation, inquiry, analysis and stewardship. To this end, the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies(CIMSS) has been networking with professional meteorologists, college students and the K-16 educational community for over two decades to continually raise awareness and appreciation for satellite technology.

The Federation of Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) is a consortium of researchers and associated groups that collects, interprets and develops applications for satellite generated Earth observation information. CIMSS joined ESIP in 2004 through a project called "Satellite Observations in Science Education" and currently has two staff members serving as ESIP committee vice chairs.

This EWOC presentation will give a brief overview of both the ESIP Federation and CIMSS before elaborating on some specific collaborative projects such as the evolving status of "Satellite Observations in Science Education" and the EOS-Webster Climate Change session offered at the 2006 CIMSS Teacher Workshop in Satellite Meteorology and Remote Sensing.
