A case study of sea-breeze convergence and lightning-initiated fire in Tampa Bay

A study of the detailed structure of the lower troposphere associated with a lightning-initiated fire on 30 May 2002 was made possible by the deployment of three NOAA wind profilers around Tampa Bay. While the primary mission of the temporary profiler network was the Bay Area Regional Air Chemistry Experiment (BRACE), the occurrence of a lightning-initiated fire along Interstate-75 provided an opportunity to study fire weather. Analysis of the convective instability, boundary layer wind velocity, moisture characteristics, and lightning distribution will be presented.
