Partnering with the Broadcast Meteorologist: An Innovative Science Approach to Informing the Public about the Dangers of Wildland Fires
StormCenter Communications in conjunction with the National Environmental Educational and Training Foundation (NEETF) has developed a powerful tool for delivering timely wildland fire information and public safety messages to the public through a partnership with local broadcast meteorologists in Colorado, California and Arizona.
Utilizing StormCenter Communications Envirocast™ for TV software, advanced satellite imagery from NASA and other agencies will be delivered directly to media partners, specifically TV meteorologists and weathercasters. Specific public safety messages, tips, factoids and visualizations as part of a public safety and educational campaign will be delivered to these media outlets n order to better inform the public of wildland fire dangers and threats.
A special Envirocast™ Newsletter will also be distributed via email to broadcast meteorologists in fire prone area of the country. This pilot project is being funded by the USDA Forest Service.
