The University of Wisconsin High Spectral Resolution Lidar began continuous operation at Eureka, Canada(80 deg N, 86 deg W) in August of 2005. This deployment is part of the NOAA SEARCH program which also includes continuous observations with the NOAA 8.6 mm wavelength Doppler radar. This paper presents a climatology of cloud properties including optical depth and particle effective radius derived from the lidar and radar measurements. The robust calibration of the HSRL optical depth measurements make these measurements more reliable than conventional lidar-radar retrievals.
