AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY ON ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS FOR FORMATION OF CLOSED CONVECTION CELLS

Yuichi Miura, Science University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan

In the previous study (8th Mesoscale processes, 1999), we emphasized that the one of formation processes for closed convection cells is closely related with mesoscale convergence and divergence field embedded organized closed and open convection cells generated in the cold air outbreaks as proposed by Krishnamurti (1975). A observational case such as shown a fine closed cells was rarely observed over the sea around Japanese islands, but we happened to be seen a clear closed cells over the sourthern sea of Okinawa island by the satellite on 00 GMT 02 January 2001. We will report that we find closed cells in near convergence field same as previous study under the atmospheric conditions and synoptic situation.
