Modeling of Atmospheric and Space Effects on Air Force C2 Operations

.Look no further than Kosovo to see the havoc weather can impart on an air campaign. Poorly integrated or untimely aerospace weather information results in lost missions and decision bottlenecks. The emergence of highly accurate aerospace forecasts, together with growing knowledge of enemy and friendly systems, allows C2 planners to maximize their military advantage. This paper presents the work within AFRL Space Vehicles Directorate to develop and integrate Tactical Decision Aids (TDAs) and the Common Operating Picture for Effects within the aerospace environment. These products are in parallel development for both command post exercises and TBMCS architecture. The former emphasizes adding the current weather effects realities to the training exercises while the later focuses on predicting future effects to assist the planners C2 decision optimization. The paper will highlight recent efforts of model integration into JEFX and Blue Flag exercises and introduce the technologies making these models function
