Damaging Wind Gusts During the 10 November 1998 Squall Line over the Central US

Jeffrey Connors, Plymouth State College, Plymouth, NH; and D. Schultz

On 10 November 1998, a squall line extended from the upper Midwest to the Gulf Coast states over the central US. This squall line produced three tornadoes, numerous wind-damage reports, large hail, and continuous lightning over much of its length. In this presentation, we argue that the damaging downdrafts behind the squall are associated with nearly saturated descent within a frontogenetical circulation.
