Data sets available for stratospheric studies

Nancy A. Ritchey, Computer Sciences Corporation, Hampton, VA; and W. P. Chu and K. Hoppel

Data obtained from the Stratospheric Aerosol Measurement II (SAM II), the Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment II (SAGE II) and the Polar Ozone and Aerosol Measurement II (POAM II) instruments are available from the NASA Langley Atmospheric Science Data Center. In their entirety, these data sets span the period of October 1978 through April 1999, providing vertical distribution of aerosols, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and meteorological parameters. These data have already been used to study the long-term variability of aerosols and ozone, the role of volcanoes in climate and stratospheric chemical processes and polar stratospheric clouds. This presentation will include information about each of the data sets and examples of research using these data.
