On the Windfinding Accuracy of Loran-C, GPS and Radar
Juhana Jaatinen, Vaisala Oyj, Helsinki, Finland; and J. B. Elms
This paper presents results of a trial that tested different upper air windfinding methods in Camborne, UK, February 1999. A series of triple soundings was performed and the windfinding accuracy of GPS, two types of Loran-C receiver and precision radar was estimated. The statistical analysis consideres two cases: the average accuracy for the whole wind profile and an analysis method that studies the accuracy at different pressure levels.
