For fifteen years, Unidata has provided innovative solutions to the problem of distributing meteorological data to education and research institutions in North America. As the volume of data increases, other approaches like reliable multicast and data on demand may be required. As the diversity of data and the number of data sources increase, keeping track of where and what data is available becomes more difficult.

In this paper we summarize problems, challenges and opportunities for meteorological data distribution systems, and present possible directions and interesting new technologies.
