Technologies now make it practical to develop specialized, highly-interactive components for training, instruction, and research activities in the physical sciences. Unfortunately, too much of the early use of technologies in the classroom centered around attempts to replace textbooks. Early use in labs required scientists to write low-level software in order to do their research.

We know now that this is the wrong approach to take, and that it is essential to provide hands-on experiences in order to both lead students along the path of discovery and also in providing tools for scientists to explore and investigate. We will provide examples of both in order to encourage others to pursue this path.
