Weather for the common man (or woman): a web course for the masses
Debbie M. Schaum, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, FL; and R. C. Bagby
Several divisions of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University have pooled their brainstorming talents to embark upon a general weather course for those people who consider themselves "weather fans." This paper details the trials and tribulations of converting a classroom course to a web course. Sailors, pilots, and amateur weather people make up the potential student population, but getting these motivated learners to sit down in front of a computer and soak up knowledge has presented a significant problem to course developers. We provide some innovative solutions to enhance web-based education for the non-traditional student.
