Sensible use of streaming video in a college-level course in applied climatology

Joanne Logan, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN; and M. D. Mullen

Streaming video can be more than "talking heads". Carefully considered use of streaming video can greatly enhance any course, especially on-line instruction. A university-level course in applied climatology is offered completely on-line at the University of Tennessee. The instructor, in her quest to improve the format of the course and increase the level of interactivity, has recently incorporated streaming video. Videos include clips of copyrighted professional video (by permission only), virtual tours, field trips, guest speakers, and demonstrations. This presentation will demonstrate how streaming video can be used to widen the scope of course materials and boost the students' interest.
