Wind Profiling Radar Signal Processing Methodology Comparison

Edward D. Creegan, U.S. Army Research Laboratory, White Sands Missile Range, NM; and A. Gutierrez

This paper details a comparison of 924MHz wind profiling radar signal processing methodologies. The conventional consensus data method using 30-minute averages is compared against the Advanced Signal Processing (ASP) method using 5-minute averages. The ASP methodology is an Army Research Laboratory adaptation of the NOAA/ETL Control, Acquisition and Signal Processing Engine for Radar (CASPER) signal processing method. The wind profiling data used in the comparison were collected in the Tularosa Basin (Northern Chihuahuan Desert), on White Sands Missile Range, NM.
