User Support and Operations Support Move to the Web

Ellen B. Brown, NOAA/NESDIS, Suitland, MD; and E. V. Tabor and R. Kelley

A continuing problem with the NESDIS polar sounding operational systems has been how to relay detailed timely information to the user community and provide images of the many products for review and evaluation. We developed a web page initially to introduce the general public to our work but in the past year we have overhauled that system and expanded it's content dramatically. Additionally we needed a better way for us to monitor and troubleshoot the system during off-duty hours, using the web page was the logical choice, however the need for security required a different type of page from the one for the user community. We would like to share with the AMS community where we came from, how we evolved, and where we hope to go within the next few years as we prepare for greater and more sophisticated sounding systems.
