17th International Conference on Interactive Information and Processing Systems (IIPS) for Meteorology, Oceanography, and Hydrology

Integration of NOS and TCOON data into AWIPS Observations

Andrew R. Patrick, NOAA/NWS, Corpus Christi, TX

The Texas Coastal Ocean Observation Network (TCOON) collects supplemental hydrometeorological, marine and other environmental data along the Texas gulf coast. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Corpus Christi (CRP) uses this data in conjunction with data collected from platforms provided by the National Ocean Service (NOS) and the National Data Buoy (NCDC). The data from TCOON is available on the Internet. However, NWS forecasters at CRP prefer to have this data available on the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS). In May 2000, through a collaborative effort between the NWS and the Division of Nearshore Research at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, TCOON data is now available for display on AWIPS. This data can also be used as input for the Local Analysis and Prediction System (LAPS) and for future mesoscale modeling.
