Visualization of Meteorological and Related Data Using Plug-ins Based on TeX Technology

Michael Vulis, City College of New York, New York, NY; and S. A. Austin

A new technique is introduced for the generation of weather and geographic maps based on TeX GeX/plugin technology. The technique allows quick creation of high-quality maps within a document and supports data retrieval from GIS systems with optional overlaying of near real-time meteorological data.

To facilitate visualization of surface, satellite and related data, the technique supports intelligent merging of disjoint datasets. The real-time server implementation of the new technology allows near-instant generations of the current maps and dispersement of them via compact PDF-based vector graphics. This project is partially supported by NASA grant NCC 5-98.
