National Atlas: Distributed National Assets

Jay Donnelly, U.S. Geological Survey, Reston, VA

The National Atlas of the United States® delivers reliable and authoritative geographic information to all Americans. Its online services provide integrated map information collected by more than 20 Federal organizations. The atlas design adheres to standards for data documentation, access, and transfer so that map information can be delivered to any open mapping system or service. Its architecture also means that the National Atlas can request, retrieve, and display maps from multiple systems that are managed locally.
