5.4 Boundary Layer Targeted Observations using the Glidersonde Meteorological Package in a Radio Controlled Aircraft: Turbulence Signature and Structure

The purpose of the field study is to characterize the early development of the boundary layer via observations by an instrumented remotely piloted vehicle (RPV). The boundary layer data were collected during the morning of June 29, 2000 in Central Oklahoma. The weather conditions at the start of the field study consisted of mostly sunny skies with high thin cirrus, light winds and temperatures in the mid 60's. A total of 10 vertical profiles were observed in a two hour period. Preliminary analysis of the high temporal and spatial data reveal several characteristics of a typical developing boundary layer.
