Stephen A. Cohn, NCAR, Boulder, CO; and W. O. J. Brown and D. Parsons

The NCAR Multiple Antenna Profiler (MAPR) is currently undergoing major upgrades to improve its sensitivity, temporal resolution, and range resolution. The first field deployment after these upgrades will be as part of the DOE Vertical Transport and Mixing Experiment (VTMX) in the Salt Lake City basin during October, 2000. A Doppler sodar will be co-located with MAPR and a tethersonde system will also be nearby. We will present observations primarily of the transitional and nocturnal boundary layer during VTMX. Observations of layers (turbulent or stable) and inversions, which effect transport and dilution of pollutants, will be emphasized.
