The Virtual Institute for Satellite Integration Training has been using AWIPS case studies to develop interactive learning opportunities for the National Weather Service Professional Development Series on Integrated Sensor Training. Although AWIPS configurations can vary by NWS region, new data can be added at the regional and/or national levels. As new products and capabilities are added, VISIT seeks to provide education and training opportunities for operational forecasters.

This paper/poster will show some of the recently-added data sets displayed in the AWIPS environment and the importance of using an integrated display approach to generating graphics for forecasting. Where possible, existing AWIPS capabilities and products are used with the new material. A brief list of new and emerging AWIPS data sets and capabilities include Quikscat scatterometer winds, GOES winds, GOES sounder imagery, GOES sounder derived products, GOES RSO, LAPS, MSAS, integrated displays for evaluating model guidance, and the use of load modes such as dProg/dt.
