Applications of NOAA MODIS Near-Real-Time Data

Kristina C. Sprietzer, Science and Technology Corp., Suitland, MD; and P. Haggerty, G. Legg, and R. Luczak

The NOAA/NESDIS MODIS Near Real Time system was designed under Computer Sciences Corporation's (CSC) Central Satellite Data Processing (CSDP) contract. The system runs 10 product suites for the MODIS instrument data on the Terra Satellite, and 4 product suites for the MODIS instrument data on the Aqua Satellite. The areas of interest are: CONUS, Alaska and Hawaii for the Terra satellite and Global coverage for the Aqua satellite.

This poster will present the applications of near real time data such as monitoring smoke dispersion of forest fires, and the performance of a near real time system in terms of data transfer and product generation.
