ISCCP Data Available for Climate Variability Research

Susan Haberer, NASA/LRC, Hampton, VA; and K. L. Morris and N. A. Ritchey

The International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP) data are available from the NASA Langley Atmospheric Sciences Data Center (ASDC). The ISCCP data products contain various temporal and spatial resolution data that can be used in numerous climate variability research efforts.

ISCCP is an ongoing project. Currently the ISCCP D1, D2, and DX data products are available for 1983 through 1994. The DX product contains the pixel level analysis for each satellite radiance data set. The D1 product is produced by merging the DX results from each satellite every 3 hours on an equal-area map with 280 km resolution with the atmospheric and ice/snow data sets to produce global coverage at each three hour interval. The D2 data product is produced by averaging the D1 data for each month, at each of the three hourly time intervals and over all time intervals. These data may be ordered from the NASA Langley ASDC at http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov.
