Utility of including precipitable water data for tropical wave wind regression analysis

PAPER WITHDRAWN

Paul E. Roundy, Penn State University, University Park, PA

Multiple linear regression analysis is useful for finding structures of equatorial waves. Reanalysis wind data are regressed onto digital precipitable water (PW) and outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) data at three base points. Three base points facilitate statistical experiments allowing different equatorial symmetries in the input data. The statistical significance of wind regression results are greater for winds regressed onto both OLR and PW data at the base points than for winds regressed onto OLR alone. NOAA/NESDIS interpolated OLR and NVAP PW are used in the analysis.
