SAFIR Total Lightning detection technology

Vaisala is in the process of establishing a network in the USA for Total Lightning Localization and Thunderstorm Nowcasting. The subject of this paper is to present : - the SAFIR technology which shall be used for this network, - the benefits of Total lightning in terms of storm early detection and nowcasting performances, - the availability of data for the different users, - and examples of operational applications in fields of aviation, hydrology and lightning warning.
