Design of the framework of high-resolution global atmospheric models

Bin Wang, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China

A careful study on the integral properties of the primitive equation system of baroclinic atmosphere is carried out, and an efficient scheme to design the framework of the global atmospheric model is put forward. With any a high resolution acceptable to the available computer capability, the framework can be well stable, without any filtering and smoothing. On the SGI Origin 3000 computer system with 16 processors, the framework with the horizontal resolution 0.2X0.2 runs successfully. A numerical test on the framework is included in the paper. And finally, it is applied in an atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM). The results show that this framework can improve the simulation in the East Asian Area.
