11.3

The interseasonal variability of Asian summer monsoon

P. L. S. Rao, IBM India Research Laboratory, New Delhi, India

It is known that the Asian summer monsoon circulation varies from one season to another. Most of the earlier studies focused on the contrasting features of the summer monsoon during surplus (La Nina) and deficient (El Nino) seasons. In this paper, we demonstrate the variability between a couple of normal monsoon seasons, using a global data assimilation and forecast system. We delineate the variability of Asian summer monsoon in the analyses and forecasts of various ranges making use of energetics' analysis. Further, we also elucidate how the result of various forcing mechanisms in terms of rainfall, corroborate this variability.
