Operational deployment of the Open Systems Radar Product Generator (ORPG) is scheduled to get underway during the second half of calendar year 2001. The ORPG is undergoing System Test and beta-level testing on operational radars. Preliminary results from these tests are demonstrating the ORPG software is very robust and its development a success. This paper will discuss some of the challenges the software engineering team faced over the course of development and how we adopted a flexible methodology that allowed us to adapt to the changing conditions and evolving requirements of the project and develop a highly successful product. We will relate our development practices to traditional methods and to some of those being applied in current day industry.
