Whole air samples collected on the NCAR Electra aircraft during TexAQS 2000 were analyzed for a wide range of volatile organic trace gases (VOCs). The objectives of the analyses were: 1) to quantify major reactive organic trace gases (compatible with sampling and analytical methodology) in the TEXAQS study region, 2) to examine the role of these trace gases in ozone formation, 3) to compare with emission inventories, and 4) to characterize trace gas composition and geographic distribution of VOCs related to various emission sources – petrochemical, automotive, biogenic. The types of compounds used for characterizing sources included, non-methane hydrocarbons, halocarbons, CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs, alkyl nitrates, some oxygenated hydrocarbons, and various “exotic” compounds and tracers that were identified in the study region. This presentation will highlight the concentrations, distributions, and relationships of the various trace gases measured during the TexAQS study.
