Do ENSO and PDO impact rainfall in Baja California, Mexico? A look at precipitation variability along this vast peninsular landscape

The precipitation characteristics of Baja California peninsula are difficult to generalize, as variability exists throughout the region. Seasonal rainfall patterns are prevalent along this stretch of land but the internal and external mechanisms creating these patterns differ regionally. In addition to understanding regional precipitation variability it is also necessary to look at longer term ocean-atmospheric processes which may be driving intra- and inter-annual variability. For instance, it needs to be determined whether El Niņo Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) have a role in delivering above average rainfall to the peninsula as observed in adjacent territory in the southwestern United States.
