We have created a secure, internal software system providing project leaders with access to local budget information from the NOAA Research Financial Data Management System (FDMS), which is used by all NOAA Research operating units to manage research project, budgets and accounts. The system consists of an intranet website and associated server software that integrates with the local FDMS and provides access to current local budgetary information for various projects by project leaders or principal investigators within a single NOAA Research operating unit. The described project leader web report system delivers budget information in a more complete and timely manner than was previously available. It leverages modern technologies including Java, XML, Extensible Sylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT), Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) and Microsoft Access databases.
