Tracy Hansen, NOAA/ERL/FSL, Boulder, CO; and T. Dankers and C. H. Paxton
The Graphical Forecast Editor (GFE) is the grid editing component to the Interactive Forecast Preparation System (IFPS) which allows forecasters to produce a set of digital data representing the forecast. The GFE software produces text products directly from the digital data in multiple languages. This software is written in a flexible programming language called Python which allows the local offices to customize the products to meet their unique needs. This paper describes the GFE text product framework, the philosophy behind this approach, and how products can be customized locally.
