Cirrus detection and characterization using GOES 3.9 µm albedo
Stanley Q. Kidder, CIRA/Colorado State Univ., Fort Collins, CO
Detection of cirrus clouds and estimation of their properties is important for many applications. This paper explores the use of the 3.9 µm albedo from the GOES Imager to detect cirrus both day and night and to estimate cirrus properties, especially transmittance.
