A New Tall-Tower Meteorological Monitoring System
Matthew J. Parker, Westinghouse Savannah River Company, Aiken, SC
The Atmospheric Technologies Group of the Savannah River Technology Center operates an extensive meteorological monitoring network of 13 towers in and near the Savannah River Site near Aiken, South Carolina. A new, comprehensive meteorological monitoring system will be installed on a nearby television transmitter tower to provide atmospheric boundary layer profile data well above ground level. The new system will include 3-dimensional sonic anemometers, fast-response water vapor and CO2 sensors, and slow response temperature and humidity sensors. Monitoring levels will be at 30 m, 61 m, and 304 m, and data will be transmitted via wireless technology. Mean values, covariances, and fluxes will be calculated for standard 15 minute averaging periods, and all raw data (10 Hz) will be available for reanalysis. The details of the hardware and software of this system will be presented.
